Why Horses Though?

The horse as a psychopomp

A psychopomp is a guide between realms of experience. In Intraspectre, the horse fulfills this role symbolically and relationally. The horse, revered for its strength, grace, and intuition, carries some of the emotional and spiritual burdens that arise during deep self-exploration.

Steeped in tradition and Culture

Horses are uniquely attuned to non-verbal states, emotional congruence, and nervous system shifts. In our work, the horse serves as;

  • A regulator

  • A mirror

  • A carrier of symbolic weight

Our key psychopomp is from what is generally known within the horse world as a 'cold-blood'. This enables the horse to carry the emotional weight in balance without burden, collapse or overwhelm, for both itself and client.

Carrying what is too heavy to hold alone

The horse is not used as a tool, metaphor, or intervention in this part of the process.

It is a relational presence within a bounded process.
